Texas Sotol, Dasylirion texanum, is commonly mistaken for yucca though it comes from a different family. This short-trunked perennial blooms June-July with a 9-15ft flower stalk bearing pale yellow flowers. Texas Sotol supports wildlife during dry spells by splitting open it's trunk to allow them to feed on the spongy interior and leaf bases. It is drought tolerant, cold/heat tolerant, and deer resistant!
