Society Garlic is a hardy, clump-forming perennial known for its delicate, star-shaped purple flowers and slender, grass-like foliage. Native to the rocky grasslands of eastern South Africa, it thrives in warm climates and makes an excellent choice for borders, mass plantings, or container gardening. Despite its name, Society Garlic is not in the same genus as true garlic and onions, though it belongs to the same plant family. The name comes from the belief that its garlicky flavor does not cause bad breath.
