Purple Lovegrass (Eragrostis spectabilis) is a Texas-native perennial grass that transforms from a low green clump into a soft cloud of reddish-purple blooms in late summer. It thrives in sunny spots with dry, poor soil where other plants may struggle. As the season ends, its airy seed clusters dry and can tumble away in the wind, helping spread new seeds. It also supports local wildlife as a host plant for Zabulon Skipper caterpillars.
