Coral Bean (Erythrina X bidwiliiis) a deciduous shrub or small tree native to the southeastern U.S. It features striking red, tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Growing up to 15 feet tall in ideal conditions (often called a “giant” form), it has thorny stems, three-part leaves, and produces bright red, toxic seeds in slender pods. Coral Bean prefers full sun, well-drained soil, and is drought-tolerant once established. It’s popular in native and pollinator gardens for its bold color and ecological value.
