Acca sellowiana (formerly Feijoa sellowiana), commonly known as Pineapple Guava, Feijoa, or Guavasteen, is an evergreen, perennial shrub or small tree in the myrtle family. Native to temperate South America, it is a slow-growing plant that typically forms a dense, 6-foot shrub but can reach 10-15 feet in height and width under optimal conditions.

Pineapple Guava produces egg-sized, tropical-flavored fruit with notes of pineapple, apple, and mint, making it a sought-after variety for fresh eating, preserves, and culinary use. The plant requires a cool winter period to flower and fruit, making it ideal for temperate and subtropical climates. In spring and summer, it features showy, edible flowers that attract birds, butterflies, and pollinators.

This moderately growing, drought-tolerant shrub thrives in full sun with moderate watering and performs best in USDA zones 8-10. Some varieties, such as ‘Kaiteri’ and ‘Kakariki’, are known for being self-fertile, early-ripening, and producing large fruit. Pineapple Guava is also deer-resistant and can withstand temperatures as low as 5–15°F, depending on the variety.
